Child-Centred Massage Therapy for Infants, Kids, and Teens

When your child is tense, growing fast, or just can't seem to settle, you want care that feels safe for both of you. At Soma Burnaby, our Registered Massage Therapists offer pediatric massage therapy for infants, kids, and teens, with every session paced around your child's comfort.

Parents are part of the visit, and your therapist explains each step along the way. It's a calm, unhurried way to support growing bodies, and you'll leave with simple ideas to use at home.

What Is Pediatric Registered Massage Therapy?

Pediatric registered massage therapy is hands-on care from a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT), adapted to a child's size, age, and stage of development. Pressure, technique, and positioning all change as kids grow, so a baby's visit looks very different from a teenager's.

Parents usually look for a pediatric RMT after a growth spurt, a busy sports season, or a stretch of restless nights. Treatment is gentle and age-appropriate, and it aims to ease muscle tension and encourage relaxation. It does not replace medical care, and your therapist will suggest checking in with your doctor if a concern falls outside massage therapy.

Supportive care for active, growing bodies, from muscle tension and activity-related strain to growing discomfort or trouble relaxing. A parent or guardian takes part in the first visit, and your therapist explains the body and the treatment in age-appropriate language.

Teen Massage (13+ Years)

Individualized care for adolescents as their bodies, activity levels, and schedules change. Treatment follows your teen's goals and comfort, and your teen decides how involved a parent is.

What to Expect at a Kids Massage Appointment

Every first visit starts with a conversation. Your therapist asks about your child's health, activities, and what prompted the visit, then explains the plan before any hands-on work begins. Treatment moves at a pace your child is comfortable with, and your therapist checks in as they go.

Before you leave, you'll get home care guidance that fits your child. Babies and young children are generally seen about every six months, or sooner if something new comes up. For older kids and teens, your therapist recommends a schedule based on your child's needs.
